Backend and systems engineer in Las Vegas. Services, performance-critical code, and delivery so teams can ship.
I’m Simrod Furman, a backend software engineer in Las Vegas, NV. I hold an SB in Computer Science from MIT (1992).
I design and ship services and performance-critical components (Python, C/C++), and I put CI/CD and reproducible infrastructure in place so releases aren’t a hero moment. After 2021 I stepped away from full-time work for health reasons. That chapter is closed: I’m at full capacity and looking for a long-term backend, platform, or performance-minded role.
How I work
Clear interfaces, honest tradeoffs, deploys other people can run. I’ve been an IC on deep technical problems (GPU-accelerated numerical work, speech/telephony backends) and a consultant who unblocked a team with source control, CI/CD, and infrastructure as code.
At home I run private Gitea and a Gitea Actions runner on Incus system containers, with dev containers for consistent environments. That pipeline deploys personal sites including this one. Details on Work.
I use AI and LLMs as leverage—assistants, agents, tooling—with review, tests, and ownership still on me.
What I’m looking for
